Frequently Asked Questions

It’s completely natural to have questions as you think about starting therapy. Most people do. This page is here to help you get a sense of what working together might be like, what to expect, and how to get started.

If something you’re wondering about isn’t answered here, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to connect and talk things through. Sometimes even a short conversation can help you get a feel for the next right step.

ABOUT THERAPY

  • It’s normal to feel a little unsure before starting therapy. You might be wondering what it will be like, or whether it will really help.
Our sessions are a space for you to slow down, connect inward, and feel seen and understood in a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment. Together, we’ll explore what’s been happening in your life and relationships, and support the changes and growth you’re hoping for.

  • If you are ready to begin you can reach out by email or fill out the contact form on my website to schedule your first session.

Alternatively, you can fill out the contact form on my website or email me to request a free 15-minute phone consultation.
This short call gives us a chance to connect, talk about what you’re looking for, and see if working together feels like a good fit.
If you decide to move forward, we’ll find a time for your first session.

For couples, I usually schedule individual phone consultations before we begin.

  • Our first session is 50 minutes. You can share what’s been bringing you in and what you’re hoping for in therapy. I’ll listen closely, ask questions to understand your experience, and begin to get a sense of what might be most supportive.
There’s no right or wrong way to begin. Therapy unfolds at your pace. By the end of the session, we’ll check in together about next steps.

  • That’s completely okay. You don’t need to prepare anything or know what to say.
My job is to guide the process and help you feel safe, supported, and understood. Therapy is a space to be honest, curious, and kind with yourself It’s often where real change begins.

  • Of course. You’re always welcome to reach out with questions about how I work or what therapy might look like for you.
That first conversation is simply a way to see if it feels like the right fit.

GETTING STARTED

  • I recommend beginning with weekly sessions, especially in the early months. Consistency helps the work deepen and gives you steady support as you begin to integrate changes in your daily life.
As therapy progresses, we may meet less frequently, depending on what feels most helpful for you.

  • That really depends on what you’re hoping to explore. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific issue or transition. Others stay long term as part of ongoing personal growth.
We’ll check in along the way to make sure the process continues to feel meaningful and supportive for you.

  • My style is intuitive, direct, and engaging while also quite warm and sensitive. I draw from depth-oriented and humanistic traditions, with a focus on attuning to what’s most alive in the moment.
With individuals, I help you connect to your inner wisdom and trust your own guidance.
With couples, I help you recognize patterns that keep you disconnected and learn ways to communicate and reconnect with more honesty, care, and understanding.
Every person and couple is unique—therapy unfolds in the way that best serves your growth and healing.

  • It’s not uncommon for one person to feel more ready than the other. If your partner isn’t open to coming in, individual therapy can still be very helpful. It can bring clarity, strengthen communication, and sometimes lead to changes that naturally shift the dynamic between you.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

  • My fee is $225 per 50-minute session. I can provide a superbill (a medical receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits.

I ask that payment be made after each session, and I use Square to process payments. You’ll receive an invoice that you can easily pay online by credit card.

  • I am not on any insurance panels. However, many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement for therapy through their insurance provider using the superbill I provide (upon request).
If you’d like to explore this option, I recommend contacting your insurance company to ask about coverage for “out-of-network psychotherapy with a licensed LMFT.”

  • Currently, I work with clients online only. Many people find that meeting virtually offers comfort and flexibility, especially with busy schedules.
I work with clients throughout the Bay Area and across California.

  • I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee.
